Second Day - Sunday 01/18/09

After staying at the Red Roof Inn in Maumee, Ohio, our plans were to start an extra hour later. This was because we were gaining an hour going west and we ONLY had 540 miles today. However, as we got up the snow was coming down and there was 3 inches on the ground. After cleaning the car off, I walked Benny and lost one of his snow boots. After a 1/2 hour search, I wasn't able to find it.

So off we started about 8:15am. The temp was about 11 degrees (getting warmer). It was very slow going. We finished travelling in Ohio and proceeded to drive thru Indiana, Illinois and mid-way into Iowa. No E-Z Pass in Ohio. They do the old fashion way (paper ticket and pay with cash). In Indiana, it is called I-Zoom. Also, after we entered Iowa we noticed MANY MANY MANY cars and trucks overturned or in a ditch. I though it was from last night's snow. However, I was told that over the past week there was approx. 100 accidents on RT80. The tow trunks haven't gotten around to pulling them out.

In Indiana and Illinois and so far in Iowa, the rest area's do not have food or fuel. You need to go off exit. Gas was $1.99 a gallon in Indiana and Illinois. So we arrived at our hotel (Red Roof Inn in Des Moines. Iowa) at 6pm. I quickly turned on the TV and watched as Arizona went down the field and score the winning touchdown. Well so much for the Penn Turnpike Superbowl (Philly vs Pittsburgh).

It is 6:26pm (5:26Pm Central time) and I am shutting off the TV and going out to dinner. See Ya later

  1. SOunds like you guys are really moving. SO soryy to hear you lost Benny's booty. I am sure Grandma is most upset. How are the Red Roof Inns, do they compare to the Camden WIndward House? There is about a foot of snow here in Maine, we are going sledding today. Much warmer today around 20 degrees, yesterday believe it or not, it got to 40 and started raining, but then turned to snow again int he night. Lots of love. Kids say hi, and they want pictures.
